MAGA world took issue with New York City’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, who pledged Thursday to usher in what he called a “new era.”
Mamdani formally took the oath of office just after midnight, swearing in on a pair of Qurans, Islam’s holiest book. At a public ceremony on Thursday afternoon, Mamdani vowed to govern “expansively and audaciously,” and posed a new answer to the question, “Who does New York belong to?”
Rather than the “wealthy and well-connected,” he said New York should belong to “working people have reckoned with the consequences.”
“I was elected as a democratic socialist and I will govern as a democratic socialist,” he said.
Mamdani vowed to restore trust in government, and admitted he couldn’t fault anyone who has started to question its role, or whose faith in democracy has been “eroded by decades of apathy.”
“We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism,” he vowed, to a smattering of cheers.
MAGA world has spent the week trying to convince New Yorkers they made a mistake — and did so again at the new mayor’s swearing-in.

“AOC: ‘Zohran Mamdani will be the first Muslim mayor of our great city.’ *crowd erupts* He was just sworn in on the Quran. New York, we tried to warn you,” echoed Benny Johnson, Donald Trump ally and host of his eponymous podcast show.
David J. Freeman, a pro‑Trump MAGA social media influencer and political commentator, wrote on X, “AOC just spoke at radical socialist Zohran Mamdani’s inauguration… She bragged NYC chose ‘universal childcare,’ ‘affordable rents,’ and ‘clean public transit’ over ‘bigotry and the barbarism of extreme income inequality.’ Then declared the far-left Muslim immigrant Mamdani will be ‘a mayor for ALL of us.’ New York has FALLEN to the extreme left. This is what open borders and woke politics gets you. Good luck NYC, you’ll need it!“
Shawn Farash, a conservative activist and viral Trump impersonator, joined the chorus of MAGA voices, writing on X, “Dear NYC: We tried to warn you about what we ALL KNOW will be the biggest mistake that the city has ever made. Mamdani will not make the city safer. He will not make the city more affordable. He will not make the city more desirable. We tried to warn you. But you didn’t listen. Happy New Year, and good luck.”
Farash added, “I hear AOC and Mamdani talking about ‘Universal Childcare‘ and can’t help but think about the amount of Somalis who now want to move to NYC to rob that city blind…”
