Conservative and liberal powerhouses united around Christmas in their condemnation of a new statement about the Epstein files made by the Department of Justice, with some already notifying the investigative authorities.
The Justice Department on Christmas Eve made a surprising announcement, writing, “The US Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the FBI have informed the Department of Justice that they have uncovered over a million more documents potentially related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.”
“The DOJ has received these documents from SDNY and the FBI to review them for release, in compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, existing statutes, and judicial orders,” the DOJ added. “We have lawyers working around the clock to review and make the legally required redactions to protect victims, and we will release the documents as soon as possible. Due to the mass volume of material, this process may take a few more weeks. The Department will continue to fully comply with federal law and President Trump’s direction to release the files.”
That struck a chord with lawmakers and analysts on both sides of the political aisle.
GOP lawmaker Thomas Massie chimed in, “So what you’re saying is the files were never on [Bondi] desk like she claimed in this video?”
Dem lawmaker Ro Khanna added, “‘There are no more files, case closed.’ Six months later after [Massie] and my Epstein Transparency Act. ‘There are a million files.’”
Conservative analyst Bill Kristol said, “At first I just thought, what clowns. But after a moment’s thought I am more incredulous and suspicious.”
“A million documents? When they’ve been on high alert for months?” he asked on Wednesday. “And DOJ and FBI do have filing systems. (That’s why they’re the Epstein FILES.) Something’s rotten in DOJ.”
Political reporter Josh Gerstein said, “The FBI was supposed to deliver all the Epstein files to @AGPamBondi‘s desk by 8 AM on Feb. 28, 2025. That’s almost ten months ago. This seems like something @JusticeOIG would need to dig into.”
Legal expert Barb McQuade said, “If this is true, then the incompetence is breathtaking.”
Dem lawmaker Daniel Goldman said, “So Bondi said she demanded ALL of the Epstein Files in Feb, and the FBI spent thousands of man-hours redacting them (victim info is always the first thing redacted), so the Files had already been redacted.”
“It is not believable that they ‘found’ a million new documents,” he added on Wednesday.
