Mark Wahlberg eats a high-protein breakfast every morning that would likely get a big thumbs-up from longevity researchers.
In an Instagram post last week, the 54-year-old said he always starts the day with three hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs with turkey pieces, a side of salmon drizzled with lemon and what looks like olive oil, and a bowl of blueberries.
“Same old, same old, every day,” the “Ted” star, who is known for his strict wellness routine and daily 4 a.m. workouts, said.
“I eat the same breakfast every day, but I feel better every day!!” the caption reads.
In 2018, Wahlberg’s daily routine included waking up at 2:30 a.m., two workouts, and cryotherapy.
But as he’s gotten older, he’s dialed it down a little (he now wakes up around 3:30 a.m.) as he focuses on healthy aging.
“Getting a little bit older, I’m always now thinking about longevity, mobility, flexibility, lung capacity. Rest is equally important,” he told Business Insider in 2023.
His breakfast reflects his health goals.
The meal contains healthy fats and polyphenols — molecules that are believed to help reduce inflammation — from the olive oil, salmon, and blueberries. These foods are thought to be great for brain health and preventing cognitive decline.
His breakfast also chimes with the Mediterranean diet, which consists mainly of unprocessed whole foods like lean proteins, fresh produce, legumes, and whole grains, and is considered to be one of the healthiest ways to eat for a long life.
Although, notably, Wahlberg’s breakfast is missing complex carbs.
The dish is also high in protein, which is essential for building and maintaining muscle as well as supporting metabolic health.
As the “The Family Plan 2” star strength trains daily, extra protein is key. To build muscle, a person needs to eat around 0.75 grams of protein per pound of body weight, sports nutritionist Rob Hobson told Business Insider.
“If you are pushing weights and you’re trying to get this hypertrophy, so the muscle is tearing, then you do need to support that with a bit more protein,” he said.
