A recreation of the site where right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk was assassinated in September was on full display during a Turning Point USA event this week, leaving critics stunned over what some described as the “disturbing” display.
“Anyone else find this disturbing?” wrote Michael Flynn Jr., the son of retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, in a social media post on X Saturday.
MS NOW was present at the Turning Point USA event – its annual America Fest conference in Phoenix, Arizona – and documented the recreation of Kirk’s assassination site.
“You can see from behind me this is a recreation of the tent where Charlie Kirk lost his life at Utah University in September, and people are taking selfies with it,” an MS NOW reporter said.
Online critics called the display “weird” and a “mockery” of Kirk’s assasination, whereas others were more critical.
“I don’t care who wants to sling mud at me – this is disgusting,” wrote Paul Fleuret, a political commentator who’s amassed nearly 50,000 followers, in a social media post on X. “Unreal.”
Even self-described conservatives took issue with the display, including X user “Stupid Girl From Alabama,” another political commentator and self-described conservative who’s amassed more than 22,000 followers.
“This is bizarre,” they wrote in a social media post on X. “Am I the only one who thinks that?”
The event saw just the latest example of the growing division within the MAGA movement, with conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro attacking right-wing figures like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens at the event over their criticisms of Israel, calling the two “conspiracy theorists.”
