5 things to know about the suspected Brown University mass shooter

Authorities on Thursday released the identity of the person suspected of committing a mass shooting at Brown Universitylast weekend.

Here are five things to know about the suspect.

1. The suspected shooter’s name is Claudio Valente, 48

He is a 48-year-old former Brown University student and Portuguese national

2. He swapped license plates while on the run, authorities said.

Authorities have been searching for Valente since Saturday. He is suspected of shooting eleven students at Brown University, two of whom died from their wounds.

3. Police are investigating ties to at least one other shooting

Valente is also suspected of murdering MIT professor Nuno FG Loureiro, who teaches in the school’s engineering and physics departments, who was found dead in his home outside of Boston.

4. Valente was identified by a Flock camera

Providence, Rhode Island, Chief of Police Oscar L. Perez, Jr., said on Thursday that Valente’s vehicle was identified using a Flock camera, a controversial AI-powered traffic camera company.

5. He was found dead in a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire

Valente was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound with two weapons and a satchel, authorities said.
