Shock as ‘surprisingly candid’ top Trump aide trashes ‘conspiracy theorist’ JD Vance

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles left critics stunned Tuesday after openly criticizing Vice President JD Vance in a “surprisingly candid” interview published in Vanity Fair.

“White House chief of staff Susie Wiles shares, um, surprisingly candid views of the Trump team,” wrote MS NOW and “Morning Joe” host Jonathan Lemire Tuesday in a social media post on X.

In the interview, Wiles spoke openly and critically of several top Trump officials and allies. She called Tesla CEO Elon Musk an “odd duck” and an “avowed ketamine [user],” Trump official Russell Vought a “right-wing absolute zealot,” and Vance a “conspiracy theorist.”

“[Vance has been] a conspiracy theorist for a decade,” she said, according to the report.

Wiles also spoke on Vance’s conversion to become a loyal supporter of Trump, with the vice president previously being among Trump’s most vocal critics, having called Trump “America’s Hitler” in 2016.

“Sort of political,” Wiles said of Vance’s conversion from a never-Trumper to staunch Trump ally, suggesting that Vance may still hold disdain for the president and that his change of heart was purely a political calculus.

Wiles has a long history of working for the Republican Party, having been involved in former President Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign. She worked for Trump’s 2016 campaign in Florida, and was tapped by him to serve as his White House chief of staff shortly after the president’s election victory in 2024, making her the “most powerful person in Trump’s White House other than the president himself,” Vanity Fair’s Chris Whipple wrote.

Vance has addressed his past remarks about Trump, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity last year that Trump’s first term in office “changed” his mind about the president, a statement that sits at odds with Wiles’ assertion that Vance’s conversion was strictly “political.”
