A day after the Bondi Beach massacre of Jewish holiday celebrants by a father-and-son team of murderous antisemites, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that he’ll move to further restrict guns . . . in a nation with some of the tightest gun laws on the planet.
Simply pathetic, but all too typical.
More gun control is the default prescription of left-liberal governments the world over to horrors like the Bondi bloodbath, because they don’t dare address any of the far more relevant issues.
The killers were Islamic extremists, jihadis apparently loyal to ISIS: How about a plan to do something about that?
Albanese has remained passive for two years as antisemitic rhetoric, demonstrations and outright violence have set Australia afire since the Hamas atrocities of Oct, 7, 2023.
Two days after Oct. 7 — before Israel had even begun to respond to the attacks — haters chanting “F–k the Jews” marched to disrupt a memorial at the Sydney Opera House. The 26 months since have brought arson attacks on synagogues and day cares, “protester” assaults on Jewish-owned restaurants, widespread vandalism and other open displays of Jew hate.
All of it, culminating in the Hanukkah massacre at Bondi Beach, spawned by the “globalize the Intifada” community.
For all the left’s talk of addressing “root causes,” when it comes to eliminationist antisemitism, feckless liberal politicians refuse to denounce even overt calls for violence from Muslim extremists.
On Monday, the Aussie PM even blathered about the threat of “right-wing extremism,” when all Australia’s recent antisemitic violence plainly comes from pro-Hamas fanatics.
Heck, Albanese (like the Biden administration, and left-of-center leaders across the West) couldn’t even set up a task force to (supposedly) combat antisemitism without a companion one to tack the mythical menace of Islamophobia.
Was a fear of looking “Islamophobic” why Aussie authorities let the Bondi killers (with at least one on the security services’ radar!) build their arsenal?
Tightening Australia’s gun laws, already deemed the “gold standard” of restrictions, won’t matter as long as you’re afraid to enforce them against the “wrong” folks.
The core problem here isn’t guns, it’s an insidious ideology of Jew-hate and the extremism it fosters.
One that Albanese refuses to confront: His first statement Sunday condemning the violence didn’t mention Hanukkah or Jews.
And while he was shamed into calling out the attack as “pure anti-Semitism” a few hours later, there he was the next day vowing to go after guns, not rampant antisemitism or Islamic extremism.
How many more people will have to die before we find leaders who have the backbone to confront the ones behind the trigger, not the trigger itself?
