Trump compared to ‘drunk guy at a bar’ by House Republican over wild attack on Rob Reiner

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) voiced his anger and frustration in response to President Donald Trump’s latest effort to twist a tragedy into an attack on his political enemies.

Early in the morning, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to posthumously attack Hollywood actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was found dead along with his wife on Sunday in a shocking incident that police are investigating as a homicide. Trump’s post was ostensibly to extend condolences, but it immediately segued into an attack on Reiner for his years of anti-Trump activism.

“Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote.

Bacon, asked for comment by CNN’s Jake Tapper, vented about the president’s behavior.

“I’d expect to hear something like this from a drunk guy at a bar, not the President of the United States,” said Bacon, a moderate-leaning GOP lawmaker who is retiring from his Omaha-based district at the end of this term. “Can the President be presidential?”

Bacon is far from alone. Several prominent right-wing media figures have condemned the president’s remarks, including British broadcaster Piers Morgan and The Hill columnist Robby Soave, both of whom have lauded Trump on a number of his policies.
