Eight people, including two young children, were rushed to hospitals Saturday after a car plowed onto a sidewalk in a Los Angeles neighborhood, leaving a 9-year-old in serious condition.
The frightening crash unfolded around 12:51 p.m. near 4040 W. Washington Blvd. in Arlington Heights, just blocks north of the Santa Monica Freeway.

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene, where they evaluated 10 people and ultimately transported eight to area hospitals, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A 3-year-old and a 9-year-old were among those struck by the vehicle, with the older child reportedly suffering serious injuries, FOX 11 reported.

The driver was described as a man around 60 years old who appeared to have remained at the scene, according to KTLA. It’s unclear if we has taken into custody.
It was not immediately clear what caused the vehicle to veer onto the sidewalk or whether the driver was among those taken to the hospital.
Authorities have not released the identities of those injured or provided further details about their conditions.
Traffic was expected to be delayed in the area, with northbound traffic on 10th Avenue shut down at 23rd Street, the fire department said.
