Katy Perry was reportedly blocked from being mentioned during ex-husband Russell Brand’s rape and sexual assault trial before his conviction.
The prosecution planned to bring up details about Brand’s brief marriage to the “Firework” singer in their opening statements, according to the Telegraph, which cited pre-trial proceedings.
However, Brand’s legal team reportedly stopped that from happening, arguing that details of the exes’ relationship were irrelevant to the allegations.

“The prosecution recognize that matters post 2009 involving his relationship with Katy Perry may be sensitive, as may his previous faiths, and we are content to remove these from the opening,” lead prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC said in pre-trial submissions, per the Telegraph.
Any mentions of Brand’s religious practices and his former drinking and drug problems were also barred from being mentioned in the trial, the outlet reported.
Page Six has reached out to Perry’s rep for comment.

Brand, 51, and Perry, 42, began dating in 2009 and tied the knot in India the following year,
They were only married for 14 months before Brand famously dumped the pop star via text, just minutes before she was due to perform on stage.
Perry was not asked to give a witness statement during the police investigation into the accusations against Brand, according to the Independent.
However, Brand briefly mentioned Perry once during his four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court in London, telling the jury that their relationship helped him achieve “staggering fame.”

While Perry hasn’t commented on Brand’s legal troubles, she did hint at his secretstwo years after their split.
“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day,” Perry said in a 2013 interview with Vogue.
“I let go and I was like, ‘This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me,’” Perry added. “So I have moved on from that.”
The former “American Idol” judge also called Brand “controlling” and said their marriage was “really hurtful.”

Brand was found guilty Thursday of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
He was acquitted of two additional rape charges and one charge of attempted indecent assault.
The judge, Justice Joel Bennathan, told Brand he will be given a “significant” prison sentence.
Brand’s wife, Laura, whom he’s been married to since 2017, supported him during his trial and was in the courtroom when the verdict was revealed.

Before the trial, one of Brand’s accusers claimed he raped her in his Los Angeles home in July 2012, just five months after his and Perry’s divorce was finalized.
“I told him, ‘Get off, get off,’” the woman said to the Sunday Times in a 2023 bombshell exposé.
In that same article, six women accused Brand of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse in incidents that allegedly took place between 2006 and 2013.

Brand denied all allegations, claiming that his sexual encounters were always consensual.
The disgraced comedian was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2025. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He will be sentenced on Monday following his conviction.
