Progressive Democrats aligned with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California) are teaming up to launch a committee to urge him to run for president in the 2028 election.
Former congressman Jamaal Bowman (D-New York) and progressive activist Nomiki Konst are leading the draft committee named “Run Ro,” which aims to build support around the congressman who represents a district in Silicon Valley. NBC News was the first to report on the committee.
Konst, who has worked with campaigns for former president Barack Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), said she has known Khanna more than 10 years and believes his work reflects “the thing that Americans want right now.”
In an interview with The Washington Post, Konst touted Khanna’s efforts during the 2026 campaign cycle to mobilize voters and endorse fellow Democrats. She also praised his policies on artificial intelligence and taxing wealthy individuals, along with his work to push for the public release of the Epstein files.
Khanna is widely known to be considering a presidential run. He told The Post in October that he would make a decision by the end of the year, though he may not announce it publicly until later.
