Abdul El-Sayed again challenges Trump to take a lie detector test after president’s campaign comments

Michigan Sen.-elect Abdul El-Sayed went on “The View” Thursday and reissued his campaign-trail challenge to President Trump — he’ll walk through a metal detector, so long as the president sits for a lie detector.

“I’ll do a metal detector all day because I got nothing to hide,” the progressive Democrat told the panel, two days after defeating former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.). “But Donald, if you’re watching, lie detector still on the table.”

Prompting the message was cohost Sunny Hostin, who claimed that Trump tunes in to the show from time to time.

El-Sayed, 42, will be the first Muslim to serve in the US Senate.

The metal detector feud dates to an Oct. 25 rally in Port Huron, where Trump called El-Sayed a “jihadist” and said he “would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he’s allowed to go into the Senate.”

Days later, at a rally in Kalamazoo, El-Sayed countered that he would go through screening at the Capitol daily if Trump took one polygraph. He said his first questions would be about deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and whether Trump won the 2020 election.

Hostin then went through other attacks from the campaign. Among them were Vice President JD Vance’s remark in August that there was something “very, very evil” about El-Sayed, then the epithet Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) used for him: “jihadist leprechaun.”

“I want a hat!” El-Sayed said of the latter.

Cruz coined the label at a campaign stop outside Detroit, where he also sought to tie El-Sayed to the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed has repeatedly denied any relationship to the Islamist group and has said he disavows it.

El-Sayed said the focus on his religion showed his opponents had no case to make on the issues.

“If they had something to say about the price of gas or the price of groceries or the fact that people can’t see a doctor, they would have said it,” he said.

He followed Sen.-elect James Talarico (D-Tex.), who joined the show Wednesday, as the second Democrat to visit “The View” this week after winning a Senate seat.
