A man was killed and two others were injured on Wednesday morning after the helicopter they were traveling in crashed in Biscayne Bay off Miami, the authorities said.
A Robinson R44 helicopter fell into the water around 11:15 a.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. The U.S. Coast Guard in Miami said one person on board had been killed.
Two other men were injured when the helicopter went down near Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park at the southern tip of the village of Key Biscayne, about seven miles from downtown Miami, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, which responded to the scene with other agencies.
The injured men were transported to a hospital and were in critical but stable condition, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said at a news conference. Their identities were not released.
Sheriff Cordero-Stutz said the helicopter had been chartered and was filming boats in the water when the crash happened. She said she did not know the name of the company operating the helicopter or what airport it had departed from.
Video from NBC6, a local television station, showed the aircraft apparently upside down in the water and surrounded by yellow floats on the surface. The helicopter remained underwater late Wednesday afternoon.
It was not clear what caused the crash and where the helicopter had been heading.
The F.A.A. said it was investigating the episode with the National Transportation Safety Board. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating as well.
