One person was killed and two others were injured when a helicopter crashed into the water near Miami on Wednesday morning, officials said.
The small helicopter went down around 11:15 a.m. near Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Preliminary information indicates it was a photography flight, said the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the crash.
The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that one of the three occupants had died. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said two adults were taken by ground rescue units to a landing zone, then flown to a trauma center.
Officials didn’t immediately identify the occupants of the helicopter, which the FAA identified as a Robinson R44.
The crash comes just days after a business jet crashed Sunday at the entrance of a mobile home park in Palm Beach County, killing all nine people on board, including a family of four from Texas. The plane was en route to the Bahamas from Austin when a pilot declared an emergency in the middle of bad weather.
The NTSB is also investigating the plane crash.
