President Donald Trump faced ridicule and fury for turning on a losing Republican candidate after extending his “complete and total endorsement.”
The 80-year-old president slurred Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who lost his re-election bid to Democrat Gina Hinojosa, as a “RINO” – Republican in name only – as the GOP suffered stunning losses across the country in a midterm wipeout despite strongly backing him in a tweet posted just hours before.
“If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty!”
“I’m going to become a Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these Candidates won and lost!” Trump added.
Trump fans and critics alike took note of his about-face.
“This right here is Exhibit: A as to why Trump lost. His lack of loyalty is ASTONISHING,” posted the widely followed Patriotic Blonde account, adding the two posts side by side.
“If he couldn’t even be loyal to his wife, why would anyone expect him to be loyal to others,” noted self-described former Republican James French.
“Trump now turning on some of his strongest allies,” reported journalist Paris Schutz.
“You and real Republicans are finding out the hard way that some things in DC and in politics, never change,” seethed MAGA account Croxxed Out. “Greg Abbott is just one blaring example. There are many others equally guilty of the same unconscionable RINO betrayal.”
“Lol. Trump is such a clown,” laughed GOP strategist Tres Watson.
“The fact that Greg Abbott conceded so fast as opposed to Ken Paxton’s public statement. Then Trump calling Abbott out as a RINO. John Cornyn and his antics… it makes sense,” opined TXConservative.
“Texas has a Democrat Governor because Republicans suck and did nothing that they promised us,” blared Trump voter MBPoke. “Plus our Republican Governor brought all those foreigners and folks from Liberal states in. We needed to Primary Abbott but Republicans were to stupid to do that. The election is the results of Trump MAJORLY failing with those of us that voted for him, and Abbotts lack of anything. Don’t gaslight people.”
