NYC Marathon runner Rachel Apa was lifelong athlete, ‘always on the go’ before dying from rhabdomyolysis

New York City Marathon runner Rachel Apa was described as a lifelong athlete who was “always on the go” by loved ones and former teammates, following her tragic death during Sunday’s race from the rare muscular condition, rhabdomyolysis.

Apa, 24, played field hockey at Bucknell University and exercised regularly before recently moving to Charleston, South Carolina, to pursue an MBA while working full-time remotely, her father, Steve Apa, told NBC News.

“She was always on the go, always go, and it doesn’t matter if it’s school or sports or whatever it is. She was go,” the grieving dad said from the family home in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania.
