A Guide to The New York Times’s 2026 Election Day Coverage

It’s Election Day. Millions of Americans are casting ballots in an election that will determine which party controls the House and Senate during President Trump’s remaining two years in office. Later, they will be watching for results — and signs of how the electorate, both parties and the nation may be evolving.

The New York Times will be tracking the results of the races reaching their conclusion on Tuesday and offering news and insights that draw on the work of more than 400 reporters, editors, data analysts, video journalists and photographers in election battlegrounds and across the country.

Here’s how to follow our election coverage:

The live blog: The main hub for The Times’s election coverage is our live blog. This is the home for real-time updates on race calls, interviews with voters, result forecasts and analysis.

When the first polls close on Tuesday evening, the full picture of outcomes will begin to emerge gradually, in pieces, possibly late into the night, depending on race margins and each state’s counting procedures. We will provide round-the-clock updates managed by our newsrooms in New York, London and Seoul.

Mobile app: All midterm elections coverage is, for a limited time, free in the Times app. Readers using the app can also sign up for race calls and news alerts. The app can be downloaded here.

Home page: The home screen of the app and our website, nytimes.com, will feature headlines from our live blog and, as polls close, visualizations of the election results and forecasts.

The Needle: Our real-time election night forecast tool will go live as results begin trickling in. The Needle estimates the likelihood of outcomes, applying a statistical model to continuously processed partial results. To understand the mechanics, read more here.

Voter trends: Late on election night, we will begin publishing a series of Times Voter Trends graphics that will break down estimates for the results of House and Senate races by age, race, education and gender in every state. The goal of is to reveal how different groups shifted from previous elections. See our findings from the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections here.
