The Supreme Court dealt President Donald Trump a blow on Monday evening, refusing to intervene in favor of the Justice Department’s lawsuit demanding California set aside 20,000 ballots DOJ flagged as potentially having been cast by noncitizens.
Multiple courts have found that there is no valid reason to set aside the ballots, and the DOJ itself admitted in arguments that there is a high chance their list is full of errors.
Nonetheless, the Supreme Court’s denial resulted in an uproar from Trump supporters on X, with many attacking the court — and others suggesting the integrity of tomorrow’s election is already doomed.
“Supreme cowards,” wrote far-right lawyer and former Neil Gorsuch law clerk Mike Davis.
“The Supreme Court just DENIED the Trump admin’s request to set aside 20,000 ballots in California that were flagged as potention non-citizen votes until citizenship could be verified. Unbelievable,” raged Chaya Raichik, the activist behind the anti-LGBTQ LibsOfTikTok account.
“UNREAL. That means those ballots get mixed in with everyone else’s on Election Day,” wrote RightLine chief content officer Eric Daugherty. “A district judge, a split Ninth Circuit, Judge Boasberg, and now SCOTUS have all refused to act. Absolutely outrageous. If even a fraction of those voters turn out to be noncitizens, nobody will be able to pull those votes back out. Get out and vote TOMORROW!”
Students for Trump founder Ryan Fournier posted something very similar: “SCOTUS just shut down Trump’s emergency request to halt 20K suspected noncitizen ballots in CA. Unreal. Once they’re mixed in, they can’t be pulled out. Get out and vote TOMORROW!”
“Citizenship is not optional. The Court just told America it is. This is how elections die,” wrote the account “Vitruvius Republic.”
