Warnock says he plans 2028 run for ‘high office.’ He doesn’t say which one.

Midterm campaigns are often test runs for candidates weighing presidential bids. That’s been true in the 2026 campaign, especially in its final weeks.

On Sunday, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia) became the latest politician to land in the conversation about potential 2028 White House contenders.

“Listen, I’m going to make news for you this morning, Jake Tapper,” Warnock told Tapper, the co-anchor of CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Come 2028, I will be running for high office.”

“High office, meaning president?” Tapper asked, drawing a chuckle from Warnock, who then pivoted to talking about how he is very focused right now on the midterms.

Tapper pressed for clarification, saying the senator was “being a little cheeky.”

“You’re going to be running for either Senate or president? Is that the interpretation?”

Warnock agreed senator was indeed a “high office” but did not specify which office he was referring to.

“I’m going to be running for high office in 2028 for sure,” Warnock said.

Among Republicans, Vice President JD Vance is already seen as the front-runner for 2028 but other GOP figures, including Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Sen. John Kennedy (Louisiana) have made no secret of the fact that they are weighing presidential bids.

Former vice president Kamala Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York) and former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg are among the Democrats who have said they may run for the White House in 2028.
