President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot on his way to school, allowing her to travel to New York from Ghana to mourn her son in person, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday.
The boy, Javits Frimpong, was shot on his way to school Thursday morning near Crotona Park in the Bronx. New York police have not named a shooting suspect nor have they spoken about a motive, but the teen’s father has said his son was being bullied at school.
New York police said Saturday that no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away. Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person,” Mamdani wrote on X. “I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy.”
Javits’s father, Thomas Frimpong, said he brought his son to New York from Ghana to live with him about a year ago. The teen’s mother still resides in Ghana, according to ABC7.
Thomas Frimpong has said two boys were recently suspended for bullying his son.
The White House and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
