President Donald Trump lashed out at a protester who interrupted his campaign rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Thursday, mocking the man’s appearance as police removed him from the event.
“Here we go, paid protesters. Paid protesters,” Trump declared as officers rushed toward the man and the crowd erupted into chants of “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!”
The president then unloaded on the protester, ridiculing his appearance.
“Some dope, sloppy-looking guy, sloppy-looking guy,” Trump said. “They’re all sloppy. They’re all losers. They’re all losers!”
Trump was urging supporters to vote in next Tuesday’s midterm elections when the interruption occurred, prompting him to briefly abandon his remarks.
“They pop up every once in a while,” he continued. “No, they’re all trained, paid. They don’t do a good job, but they always hit me right at the punch line.”
The president then returned to his election pitch, urging South Carolina voters to vote for Darlene Graham, whom he praised as “apple pie.”
“You’re all apple pie, and that’s good. That’s what we want. We want apple pie,” Trump said Thursday.
“She’s a radical left person running against a person that is apple pie,” he added about Graham’s Democratic Senate opponent Annie Andrews.
