Anthropic files for blockbuster IPO that could value AI giant at $2 trillion

Anthropic formally filed paperwork Monday to go public at a valuation of up to $2 trillion — and the public offering is expected to mint a new crop of California mega-billionaires. The Claude maker’s seven founders are among those potentially poised to net billions from the blockbuster IPO, announced in a Monday S-1 filing. The San Francisco-based company plans to list on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker “ANT,” the SEC filing revealed.

Though Anthropic didn’t give details of the price or number of shares offered, investors have recently pegged its valuation at $1.5 trillion, according to Reuters, down from the $2 trillion figure floated in initial reports on the looming public debut.

Even a valuation of $1.5 trillion would make Anthropic among the most valuable companies in the world, on par with Tesla’s current market cap.

The seven former OpenAI employees who founded Anthropic in 2021 could each be worth up to $29 billion when the AI company goes public. Each cofounder holds roughly 240 million shares, currently valued at nearly $14 billion, according to its Monday IPO filing.

Their stakes could double in value if Anthropic reaches its projected $2 trillion valuation. The IPO will be “monumental” for the Bay Area and state economies, said Yishai Kabaker, a CPA and tax partner for the firm Gursey Scheider LLP. He compared it to the wealth creation of the early 2000s, when Google and Facebook went public.

In San Francisco, he noted, the new wealth will create a “ripple effect” that further raises the housing market and private school tuition.

“All the normal markers of wealth are likely to be higher for the short to medium term, depending on whether the wealth stays around in the state.”

Kabaker cautioned that the Anthropic IPO’s massive wealth creation should not be seen as a reason for state spending to continue on its current trajectory, which is now around $350 billion — a 40% increase from when Gov. Gavin Newsom took office.

Here are seven Anthropic founders poised to cash in big:

Dario Amodei, 43, co-founded Anthropic in 2021 and is CEO. He was vice president of research at OpenAI before quitting the firm to launch safety-focused Anthropic with his sister, Daniela Amodei.

The former Stanford physicist has warned of existential AI risks while simultaneously plotting its multitrillion-dollar public offering.

Daniela Amodei is Dario’s younger sister and president of Anthropic.

Like her brother, she was an exec at OpenAI before launching Anthropic. She began her career in politics, working on a Pennsylvania campaign and for former Democratic Rep. Matt Cartwright of Pennsylania. Dario and Daniela Amodei each earned $1.4 million in annual salary last year, according to an SEC filing.

Daniela Amodei earned a total of $16.4 million in 2025, and her brother earned $18 million.

Christopher Olah

Christopher Olah, 34, leads interpretability research at Anthropic. He’s made headlines for puzzling takes on AI consciousness that were reportedly expressed to religious leaders, according to the New York Times.

The tech exec reportedly told religious leaders that the company’s chatbot, Claude, may be conscious and capable of suffering. He joined Pope Leo XIV in May to warn about the risks of AI detailed in the pontiff’s latest encyclical, “Magnifica Humanitas.” Olah almost cancelled a spring meeting at the Vatican after learning the pope planned to deliver the message that AI is not actually conscious, according to the New York Times.

Jack Clark. 38, works on public policy at Anthropic and is a former journalist.

Like the Amodei siblings, he worked at rival OpenAI before jumping ship. He leads the Anthopic Institute, a think tank exploring the societal impacts of AI. He oversees research teams focused raising awareness of “powerful AI,” according to the company’s website, including Societal Impacts, Frontier Red Team, Economic Research, Measuring AI Progress, Rule of Law, and Mission Labs.

Tom Brown

Tom Brown, 39, is the company’s chief compute officer responsible for making its technical resources secure and efficient.

Before joining Anthropic, Brown was instrumental in building OpenAI’s GPT-3 as a lead engineer. The technical wizard previously lived in a San Francisco hacker pad called Archive, along with other Anthropic employees, the New York Times reported.

Jared Kaplan

Jared Kaplan, 42, is Anthropic’s chief science officer.

Kaplan was key in developing “Constitutional AI,” which aims to develop AI alongside a set of “predetermined principles and values,” according to Anthropic’s website. Like Brown, he was involved in the creation of OpenAI’s GPT-3.

The Harvard and Stanford grad is also an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Sam McCandlish, 36, is Anthropic’s chief architect and former chief technology officer.

Before joining Anthropic, he made “significant contributions to AI safety at OpenAI, where he built and led a team focused on the science and scaling of machine learning,” per a company bio.
