Mary Trump had a pointed response to her uncle’s latest praise of first lady Melania Trump.
In the newest installment of “Trump Trolls Trump,” her weekly series on her Substack, The Good in Us, Mary Trump highlighted a recent clip of President Donald Trump gushing about his wife on the campaign trail.
“My wife is a very elegant, beautiful woman. She’s actually becoming the next Eleanor Roosevelt,” the president said. “She’s always saying, ‘Please don’t dance on stage.’”
Mary Trump, a psychologist and author who has long been one of her uncle’s harshest critics, wasn’t buying it.
“As for Melania being the next Eleanor Roosevelt—well, I’m pretty sure Eleanor Roosevelt was certainly not a Russian plant,” she wrote.
She returned to the first lady later in the post. She pointed to talk of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine that is reportedly being led by Melania Trump. One of the first lady’s senior advisers said both countries “formally recognized her as an intermediary, giving her the power to negotiate this ceasefire.”
“Who better than a woman accused of being a Russian plant to negotiate peace, right?” Mary Trump wrote. “I can hardly believe what I’m hearing. It sounds like a reality TV storyline, not a plan for global peace.”
The first lady has fiercely pushed back on attacks on her character in the past, including threatening defamation lawsuits against critics.
Mary Trump also took aim at the crowds at her uncle’s rallies.
“What truly concerns me isn’t just the fabrications or the outright absurdity of Donald’s comments,” she wrote. “It’s the fact that many in that crowd reveled in it.”
She closed with a reminder that “mockery is our superpower.”
