President Donald Trump’s brag about acing a cognitive exam during his rally in Kansas on Monday night instantly blew up in his face.
Trump has been crisscrossing the country over the last few weeks rallying support for Republicans in red states ranging from Texas to Kansas, where vulnerable Republicans are facing tough midterm races. Trump has claimed the rallies are increasing support for the vulnerable candidates, even though some election experts have noted the efforts are essentially too little, too late.
During a rally in Wichita, Kansas, on Monday night, Trump bragged to the crowd about his intelligence and how he aced a recent cognitive exam.
“The first four or five are pretty easy, real easy,” Trump said. “What they do is they show you a lion, a bear, a snake, and a giraffe, and they say, ‘Which one is the giraffe?’”
Then, the president tried to turn the story into an insult against the media.
“None of those people back there could get a perfect score,” Trump said.
The president’s comments caused a stir on social media.
Gary Crooks, a former opinion page editor, sarcastically cheered on the president’s perceived accomplishment.
“Great job. Here’s a cookie,” Crooks posted on X.
Max Flugrath, a communications expert, pointed out that Trump was bragging about acing a test that young children could pass.
“The president of the United States is bragging about correctly identifying a giraffe. This is the same question posed to children in kindergarten,” Flugrath posted on X.
Thomas Pain, a frequent Trump critic, chided Trump for the brag.
“For a MAGA, this is a great achievement,” he posted on X.
