Inside Democrats’ absurd push to downplay noncitizen voting and block Voter ID

Californians have been told for months or even years: Noncitizen voting is as mythical as Bigfoot.

Well, we just had a few sightings.

As the California Post reported, federal authorities on Monday charged 28 foreign nationals with alleged election-related crimes, including illegally registering to vote and, in some cases, casting votes in past elections.

The feds called “Operation Protect the Vote” the largest voter fraud bust in state history.

And it underscores a basic truth in California: Fraud of all kinds has run amok for years; it needs to end; and state voters in November would do well to support Prop. 39, the Voter ID act — to help ensure that at least part of it does.

Public faith in California’s voting system has faltered, and no wonder: The state has absurdly lax voting procedures.

Sanctuary immigration policies, along with a state system that automatically registers some voters, lead many to wonder just how many noncitizens are tucked into California’s voter rolls.

Last week, the Trump administration suggested that number is at least 20,000, and sued the state over its refusal to segregate those voters’ ballots to resolve eligibility questions before they’re counted.

Plus, the state has few guardrails on balloting: Officials paper the state with mail-in ballots with little care over who receives them, who completes them or who returns them.

The California Post has documented alleged cases of homeless Skid Row voters who say they were paid a couple of bucks to vote for specified mayoral candidates. The Post has also found thousands of voters registered using the addresses of temporary homeless shelters — with mail-in ballots presumably flowing to those locations automatically each election cycle, despite limited bed space and high turnover.

What’s more, ballot harvesting — the practice by which political operatives gather reams of paper ballots and submit them on behalf of others, with few if any controls or oversight — is rampant in California.

And then there’s the prolonged count after Election Day: California, which takes week to tally ballots, is an international laughingstock. The glacial vote-counting further erodes faith in the election process when, time after time, Election Night results are reversed as late ballots dribble in long after voting ostensibly ends.

Despite this Dumpster fire, Democrats keep asserting that nothing’s amiss.

True to character, California Dems derided Monday’s arrests. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press account on X shared a long series of tweets mocking the operation. Others, including Attorney General Rob Bonta — who called the arrests “a drop in the bucket” — were likewise dismissive.

That’s not leadership. That’s defensive evasion.

Why, after all, would any fair-minded person oppose putting a stop to voter fraud, however rare or common?

Monday’s news affirmed a stark reality: California politicians have shown less than zero interest in ending the state’s vote-system mayhem.

It’s taken the Trump administration to show that yes, some noncitizens are in fact on California’s voter rolls — and some of them have indeed apparently voted.

Which brings us to what state voters can do to improve election integrity in California:

Pass Prop. 39, the Voter ID act on the Nov. 3 ballot.

The Voter ID measure is straightforward: It would require every voter to either show identification when voting in person, or write the last four digits of an ID number on the ballot envelope if voting by mail.

That’s it.

This simple step would tie every ballot to a legitimate California voter. It would help prevent noncitizens from voting — rendering federal lawsuits over alleged illegal voting unnecessary.

And it would hamper ballot-harvesting machine politics: Political operatives would need to get each voter’s ID number before collecting and submitting large tranches of ballots to be counted.

All those blank ballots perhaps floating around at homeless shelters and elsewhere? With voter ID, Californians could be more confident they’re not being completed and returned improperly.

Democrats counter that a Voter ID law would deter people from voting.

But think about it: Does an ID requirement to buy alcohol deter people from drinking?

Seems like the only people Voter ID would deter from voting are people who shouldn’t be voting in the first place.

Democrats must know that.

Their Bigfoot myth has crumbled.
