MTG hatches plot to oust Mike Johnson before she hits the exits: report

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is resigning from Congress near the start of next year — but on her way out the door, she is considering a final act of revenge against House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

According to MS NOW, “In recent days, the controversial Georgia Republican has been working behind the scenes to gauge whether there’s support for a motion to vacate the chair … Under the House rules adopted at the beginning of this year, nine Republicans are needed to trigger such a vote — and Greene is trying to figure out who might be willing to sign on.”

One source told MS NOW, “Marjorie is approaching members to get to nine who will oust the speaker. And if we don’t get to work on codifying Trump’s agenda, anything can happen.”

The last successful motion to vacate the chair happened in 2023, when a group of renegade Republicans, led by former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), forced the ouster of then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), triggering weeks of chaos and paralysis of the lower chamber before Johnson was finally settled on as a consensus pick to replace him. McCarthy has always maintained that the vote was revenge by Gaetz for an ethics investigation into him, which ultimately sank Gaetz’s nomination for attorney general.

Greene, a far-right lawmaker who has been known for pushing conspiracy theories, has recently had a growing rift with her party, accusing GOP lawmakers of letting a health care crisis spiral out of control and claiming that she truly represents an “America First” ideology better than Trump does.

Trump has hit back, referring to Greene as a “traitor” after her recent “60 Minutes” interview detailing all of her grievances.
