The Republican-controlled Senate in Indiana’s state legislaturerejected a partisan effort to redraw the state’s electoral map ahead of the 2026 midterm election, something President Donald Trumpand his cronies have been pressuring state legislatures across the country to do.
On Thursday, the Indiana Senate voted 31-19 to reject a new map even though Republicans hold a 40-10 advantage in the Upper Chamber. The proposed map would have made Indiana’s two Democratic-held Congressional seats lean Republican during the midterm, which could help Trump keep a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Seven out of the nine Congressional representatives from Indiana are currently Republicans.
Fans of the MAGA movement melted down on social media after the final vote tally was released.
“Only 19 Republicans voted for it in chamber with a supermajority,” Greg Price, a former rapid response manager for The White House, posted on X. “Pathetic.”
“The spineless RINOs in Indiana, many hailing from districts where President Trump won by over 20% just last November have stabbed their own voters in the back and sold out America!” Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz posted on X. “We’ll be launching primary challenges against every last traitor who voted no, effective immediately! Pack your bags, your time is up!”
“Sad,” the Williamson County, Tennessee GOP posted on X.
“Who needs enemies with RINO’s like these,” Jewels Jones, who co-hosts a podcast with MAGA influencer Phillip Buchanan, also known as Catturd, posted on X.
