Angry bison rams truck at Yellowstone in shocking dashcam video

A driver got the scare of his life when he came face-to-face with an angry bison on a dark road in Yellowstone National Park, dramatic video shows.

Kyle Weber was driving through a dark roadway within the park in the early morning hours around 2:45 a.m. August 10 in video shared by his friend Stephen Borgmier on Facebook.

Kyle is forced to bring his Ford Ranger to a halt thanks to a massive bison standing in the middle of the road. The encounter was near Mud Volcano, a hydrothermal basin in the national park, acccording to Wyoming publication Cowboy State Daily.

“I slammed on my brakes and stopped, and was just sitting there watching and waiting for him to continue walking,” Weber told the outlet.

The bison appeared unimpressed when Kyle, a mechanic driving from Canyon Village to Fishing Bridge, slowed down.

The massive beast lumbered toward his car before suddenly charging, slamming into the vehicle and bolting into the darkness.

“The bison do own the roads in Yellowstone,” Borgmier said in his post.

Weber said he was “jolted” and the impact pushed his truck backward at least a foot and a half. The animal dented the truck’s bumper and hood, and it broke a side marker light.

Weber plans to fix and upgrade the car on his own, but may keep the dented hood.

“I think I’ll keep it,” Weber said. “It has a cool story behind it.”

While bison may seem like gentle giants, they actually are quite dangerous when provoked, according to the National Park Service.  They can run up to 35 miles per hour, jump 6 feet vertically, weigh up to 2,000 pounds and pivot quickly.

The Park Service advises travelers to view them from a distance from at least 25 yards, always give them the right of way and to stay in your vehicle if encountered on the road.

Weber’s incident isn’t the only terrifying bison encounter this year. In July, a 65-year-old grandfather named Carl Isom-McDaniel was tossed several feet into the air by a massive bull bison in Yellowstone. He suffered multiple broken bones.
