A plane with six people on board crashed in rural central Wisconsin on Tuesday night, leaving no survivors, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in a wooded area in the town of Dellona, west of Wisconsin Dells, a popular tourist destination. Dellona is about 40 miles northwest of Madison, Wisconsin’s capital.
Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister said the crash killed five adults and one child, according to a Madison television station. Efforts to reach Meister were not immediately successful.
Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will assist with the investigation into the crash, along with local authorities, according to a news release.
The small Piper plane had taken off from Kenosha in southeastern Wisconsin and was en route to Menomonie, which is in western Wisconsin near the Minnesota border, according to Sauk County officials. The names of those killed have not been released.
