A Republican’s AI-generated video showing her dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” has critics cringing, with one calling it the most embarrassing post ever.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who is running for governor of Tennessee, posted the video Tuesday to her campaign account, @VoteMarsha, with the caption “Tomorrow. Ready to roll.” The clip uses AI to depict Blackburn dancing in a way that mimics Lamar’s 2025 Super Bowl halftime performance. She appears to be dancing alongside state Sen. Brent Taylor, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) and Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN), who are all on the state’s Republican ticket for the midterms, as well as former Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs dressed as Kane, his former wrestling persona.
The account for The Tennessee Holler, a progressive news site founded by former Democratic congressional candidate Justin Kanew, pointed out that the video borrowed from a performance many conservatives loudly complained about.
“This might be the most embarrassing post of all time,” the account blasted. “Guaranteed every one of these people complained about the @kendricklamar Super Bowl halftime show. Shameless.”
The Holler tagged everyone depicted in the video, and others piled on within hours.
“This is the cringiest s— I’ve seen this election season,” slammed progressive political commentator Molly Ploofkins. “If her refusal to debate isn’t reason enough to vote for her opponent, this should do it.”
“What on God’s green earth is this s—?” asked political and media consultant Marty Taylor. “They failed miserably. Not even AI can make this group look cool.”
“My god…these Republicans are so corny,” recoiled liberal political commentator Harry Sisson.
Journalist Aaron Rupar reacted, “Yikes Marsha.”
“Really weird,” criticized disability advocate James Tate.
Blackburn’s Democratic opponent, Tennessee state Rep. Jerri Green, pleaded, “When I say please stop using AI to support our campaign, this is what I mean.”
