Kristi Noem testifies before House panel on worldwide threats

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem’s appearance before the House Homeland Security Committee on Thursday morning is billed as a discussion about global threats the United States faces, but much of the focus is expected to be on her role in the Trump administration’s immigration policies. She has overseen the president’s mass deportation campaign, including signing off on sending more than 130 Venezuelan men to a Salvadoran megaprison earlier this year under the Alien Enemies Act. Noem said in a recent court filing that she was the one who decided the Venezuelan men would remain en route to El Salvador, despite a federal judge’s order to temporarily stop their removal from the United States.
