MAGA star attempts ‘huge comeback’ by secretly making sitcom herself after racist tirade

Roseanne Barr, the comedian ABC fired in 2018 over a racist tweet, did not “land a comeback role” so much as secretly make one herself.

Barr has wrapped production on “Meemaw,” an eight-episode family comedy she began quietly filming in Austin, Texas, in November 2025, Page Six Hollywood reported Thursday.

The MAGA star reportedly solicited funds from private investors to film the project as a fully union production, and the report names no network or streamer to carry it.

The Daily Mail headline on its version of the story said Barr “lands huge comeback role in new star-studded sitcom eight years after being canceled by ‘woke’ Hollywood.” But Barr herself has admitted that the tweet “cost me everything.”

Actor Randy Quaid plays Barr’s husband, and Emmy-winning “Sopranos” actress Drea de Matteo plays her daughter, according to Page Six. Actor Omar Gooding, brother of Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., plays her son-in-law, and actor Doug Jones also stars.

Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Jon Lovitz and comedian Kim Congdon appear as guests, the outlet reported, along with comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who plays Satan.

However, the stars’ credentials rely heavily on their recent political leanings. The Mail called Barr’s castmates “a slew of other right-leaning stars” and wrote that de Matteo, Quaid, Lovitz and Hinchcliffe “made headlines in recent years for their support of Donald Trump.”

In the years after her firing, Barr began writing a different series, about a rural Alabama farmer in the cannabis and magic mushroom trade, with “Roseanne” alum Allan Stephan, Page Six reported.

“If Hollywood doesn’t buy it, then I’m just gonna make it myself,” Barr told Variety at the time, according to Page Six.

She later scrapped that plot and brought in writer-producer Allen Covert, a longtime collaborator of actor Adam Sandler, as a third writer, according to the outlet. The new show, which the report called semi-autobiographical, follows a woman from a liberal East Coast Jewish family who is disinherited and moves to Texas.

Barr plays the matriarch of a “mixed-race family of preppers in Texas” who wants to “throw her granddaughter the most fantastic bat mitzvah Texas has ever seen,” according to Page Six.

Page Six asked Barr whether X owner Elon Musk, whose Tesla and SpaceX the outlet described as based in Austin, had put money into the show. Musk did not respond.

“He wouldn’t call me back,” Barr said. “Like, ‘Can I get some assistance over here, man? I got fired for a text that was up for two hours that nobody saw.’”

The firing came in May 2018, after Barr tweeted “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj” about Valerie Jarrett, a Black former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, CBS News reported.

The post came late at night amid a string of tweets in which Barr called billionaire George Soros a Nazi and falsely tied former first daughter Chelsea Clinton to his family. CBS also described Barr as a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, as she was on the “Roseanne” revival.

Two months later, Barr told Fox News host Sean Hannity that she had not known Jarrett was Black, the Associated Press reported.

“It cost me everything,” Barr said in the interview. “I wish I worded it better.”

“Everyone is my target audience- which is why the people ‘in charge’ hate me. They don’t want us laughing together. They want us divided,” Barr wrote on X Thursday.

Later that day, she shared the Daily Mail’s headline on X with a GIF of Musk and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, who gives a thumbs-up.

“I make fun of everybody ’cause everybody deserves to be made fun of who’s in power,” Barr told Page Six. “So, I’ve got some great jokes about Republicans that the lefties are gonna love. I’m an equal opportunity destroyer.”
