MAGA figures erupted Tuesday over a report that the FBI monitored Melania and Barron Trump’s travel and tapped future White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles’ phone during its investigation of President Donald Trump.
The New York Post reported that newly released documents show the surveillance occurred as part of special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents after leaving the White House.
The report quickly sparked fury among supporters of President Donald Trump.
“Yet further proof that the Biden administration weaponized government against its political opponents,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) wrote on X. “This appalling abuse of power must never happen again.”
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller took it a step further, calling it “a seditious conspiracy against the Republic waged from within the Department of Justice and at the highest levels of government.”
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) questioned the future of the FBI.
“Not sure how the FBI survives this,” he wrote Tuesday. “Or whether it should. Maybe it’s time to start over.”
“This is one of the biggest scandals in American history,” declared Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz, while Kari Lake told her followers: “We want justice.”
Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) delivered his own explosive reaction.
“This is 1000 times worse than Watergate,” the MAGA Republican wrote on X. “Democrats can never be allowed to have this power again.”
