Gayle King admits there’s drama at CBS, and says ‘no doubt’ there will be changes at ‘CBS Mornings’

Gayle King wants no part of the drama.

The “CBS Mornings” anchor appeared in a pre-taped episode of “Sherri,” airing on Friday, and addressed ongoing rumors that she’s being forced out of her morning show job.

“I saw those rumors. What I say is this: ‘I’m not going to negotiate in the press,’” King told Shepherd.

“I hear one thing in the building and one thing outside of the building. I’ll be reading one thing, and I’m like, ‘that’s not true,”” she added.

“I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama,” she continued.

The biggest drama, it seems, is whether or not new boss Bari Weiss is planning to keep King in the mornings. Weiss is already making talent changes. She recently snatched Matt Gutman from ABC News, and promoted King’s colleague, Tony Dokoupil, to anchor of “CBS Eveniing News.”

King maintains she’s staying out of it, but, “I like the job and I’m told they liked me,” she said.

“My kids call me, and they go, ‘Mom, what’s going on?’ And I go, ‘What have you heard?’ That’s how I look at it,” she said.

King, however, is not naive. “Tony’s promotion is certainly going to mean changes at CBS Mornings. There’s no question about that, so we shall see,” she said.

Variety previously reported that King would step down after her contract ends in May 2026. Sources told the trade that she would potentially take on a new role amid parent company, Paramount’s $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media.

At the time of the report, King told TMZ the same thing she told Shepherd. “All I can say is this: From what I’m being told inside this building … all I’ve been told by everybody in this building is that they want me here. They like the job I’m doing. I like the job I’m doing!”

As for her colleague’s new role, King told Shepherd they channeled “The Jeffersons” and, “we played the song, ‘We’re moving on up to the East Side.’ Very happy for Tony,” she said.
