Isla Fisher reacts to ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ author Sophie Kinsella’s death at 55

Isla Fisher is remembering her “hero” Sophie Kinsella after the bestselling author’s death at the age of 55.

The actress, who starred in the film adaptation of Kinsella’s hit novel “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” took to social media to pay tribute to the writer following the news of her tragic passing.

“I’m so heartbroken that you are gone,” Fisher, 49, wrote on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday.

The “Now You See Me” star returned to the platform moments later to share a longer tribute to the beloved author.

“Dear Sophie, you conjured Rebecca Bloomwood, a hilarious flawed dream of a comic character,” Fisher shared in a second post. “I was lucky enough to step into her shoes and speak your witty and brilliant words.”

“My daughters grew up being read your books and love them to this day,” the “Wedding Crashers” star, who shares three children with ex-husband Sacha Baron Cohen, added.

Fisher ended her emotional message to Kinsella by thanking the British writer for the “magic” she brought to the world through her novels.

“My heart is broken. You’re still my hero, and I’m grateful for you,” she concluded. “And though we won’t meet again, your light and your magic lives on through your incredible characters.”

Kinsella, whose real name was Madeleine Sophie Wickham, originally published “Confessions of a Shopaholic” in 2000.

The novel spawned nine additional books and followed fictional financial journalist Rebecca Bloomwood amid her adventures in shopping, life and beyond.

A film adaptation of “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” which was based on Kinsella’s first and second books in the series, was released in 2009 and starred Fisher as Rebecca alongside Hugh Dancy’s Luke Brandon and Krysten Ritter’s Suze.

Kinsella’s family announced her passing via social media on Wednesday.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy),” her loved ones shared on Instagram. “She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy.”

“We can’t imagine what life will be like without her radiance and love of life,” they added.

Although Kinsella was diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of glioblastoma brain cancer in 2022, her family said that she fought the disease with “unimaginable courage.”

“Sophie counted herself truly blessed – to have such wonderful family and friends, and to have had the extraordinary success of her writing career,” her loved ones continued. “She took nothing for granted and was forever grateful for the love she received.”

“She will be missed so much our hearts are breaking,” they concluded.

Although the writer was diagnosed two years earlier, she didn’t share the news sooner because she “wanted to make sure that my children were able to hear and process the news in privacy and adapt to our ‘new normal.’”

“It can feel very lonely and scary to have a tough diagnosis, and the support and care of those around you means more than words can say,” Kinsella wrote on Instagram at the time.

“Sending you so much love and healing energy,” Fisher later commented.
