President Donald Trump is choosin’ Texas for another rally on Wednesday, making his second visit to the Lone Star State in a week’s time as he and his party fight to keep Democrats from flipping statewide and congressional seats.
Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in San Antonio on Wednesday evening, according to a Republican National Committee official, confirming the news first to The Washington Post.
The president rallied with workers at a Peterbilt truck manufacturing plant in Denton, a town outside Dallas, on Thursday, then drove to a rally in Oklahoma before flying back to Washington that night.
Texas, long a safe Republican state, has emerged as a top battleground in midterm races up and down the ballot — but especially in the Senate race between GOP Attorney General Ken Paxton, a close Trump ally, and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico.
More than $800 million in ads have aired or been booked in the state ahead of the midterms — with Republicans accounting for nearly $600 million of that, according to the media tracking firm AdImpact.
Just since September, a super PAC tied to Senate Republicans has invested $125 million in ads to boost Paxton’s chances. Many polls show Talarico with a narrow lead, nonetheless.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is also facing a competitive reelection bid, spending more than $75 million on ads this year, but is favored to win.
In South Texas, where Trump made gains in 2024, Republicans are trying to defeat incumbent Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez, as well as flip another Democratic seat significantly that was redrawn in redistricting. They’re also seeking to defend two Republican-held seats.
