Dan Osborn, an independent candidate running for the Senate in Nebraska, faced criticism last month after the Omaha World Herald released audio of him saying some Trump supporters’ lives “probably suck.”
He addressed those comments in an interview with The Washington Post and brushed them off, saying “my life sucks too” due to the cost of living. He also answered rapid-fire questions about whom he would back for Senate majority leader and his favorite Nebraska specialty.
Osborn is challenging incumbent Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-Nebraska), who has served in the Senate since 2023. In 2024, he ran against Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska) and lost. The Cook Political Report rates the race as “lean Republican,” though some polling suggests a close race.
Leading up to the 2026 midterm elections, The Post is grilling candidates in races across the country, pressing Republicans and Democrats on key issues — and their takes — at high speed. Keep an eye out for more candidate videos in the 7 Live.
