President Donald Trump promoted a flattering snippet of a CNN analysis on social media while leaving out the bulk of the segment – which documented his collapsing support beyond his base.
In a late-night Truth Social post, Trump shared a 43-second clip of CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten noting that the president’s standing with MAGA Republicans has barely budged, reported The Daily Beast. Trump won 99 percent of that group against Kamala Harris in 2024 and holds a 98 percent approval rating with them now.
“There’s been no real decline in MAGA support,” Enten said in the excerpt.
But the full 14-minute-plus segment paints a far more desolate picture ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms.
Enten opened with what he called an “eye-popping” figure – fewer than 1 percent of Republican political ads that aired during the first half of September mentioned Trump, compared with 20 percent of Democratic ads.
Among non-MAGA Republicans, Trump’s margin has cratered from 56 points in the 2024 election to just 7 points in his current approval rating.
“That is a shift, my dear friends, of 49 points away from the president of the United States among non-MAGA Republicans,” Enten said. “So his support is definitely not just ebbing there, but is absolutely crashing there.”
Just 46 percent of non-MAGA Republicans described themselves as “extremely motivated” to vote, compared with 71 percent of Democrats. About 10 percent of non-MAGA Republicans plan to back a Democrat in November.
Independents have soured as well, with Trump’s net approval among them falling 86 points since the 2024 election to minus 71. Enten pointed to the economy as the main culprit, noting that Trump held a 22-point edge over Harris on the issue among pure independents in fall 2024 but now carries a net approval of minus 77.
“When it comes to the wallet … what’s really hurting Donald Trump? Well, it’s the gas prices,” Enten said.
Some 92 percent of independents disapprove of Trump’s handling of gas prices, which have surged amid the war with Iran.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
