Controversial MAGA Texas congressional candidate Brandon Herrera has released his new financial report — and it paints him in a vastly different light.
Herrera claimed a salary of $80,000 in previous reports — not characterizing himself as a particularly wealthy individual. But now, Em Luetkemeyer reported for Punchbowl News, Herrera “has filed a financial disclosure after questions from me. His assets are worth between $9 million and $42 million — much more than … he disclosed in previous reports.”
This comes as Herrera, the GOP’s nominee to replace disgraced former Congressman Tony Gonzales, comes under intense media scrutiny for his long history of provocative comments about women and use of Nazi iconography on social media.
A CNN review of Herrera’s online content on podcasts and social media turned up a steady stream of offensive material, including comparisons of feminists’ bodies to whales or nuclear bombs, references to children as “c– trophies,” and jokes about veteran suicide, among much else. Separately, he’s re-enacted the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., mocked the Holocaust, and described a Nazi-era submachine gun as “the original ghetto blaster.”
Republicans have held Texas’ 23rd Congressional district, a sprawling jurisdiction going from San Antonio to El Paso along the border, for over a decade, with Democrats investing multiple times in challenges that were turned away as Latino voters in the area swung against them.
Their current challenger to Herrera is Katy Padilla Stout, a former public school teacher and attorney.
