‘Is he resigning?’ Predictions pour in as Trump promises major announcement

The White House revealed Sunday evening that President Donald Trump will deliver an announcement Monday at 2 p.m., followed by a print interview shortly thereafter, setting off a flood of predictions about what he plans to say.

“Is he resigning?” asked Melissa Byrne, a prominent advocate for student debt forgiveness, in a social media post on X.

The White House revealed no additional details about Trump’s announcement, only that it would be delivered from the White House’s Oval Office. The subsequent print interview would also be conducted in the Oval Office, according to the White House, though the outlet in question was not named.

Justin Morales, an educator, musician and producer, predicted that Trump would announce that the “midterms are cancelled,” and that Trump would declare himself as “king of America,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to Trump’s alleged efforts to bolster his party’s electoral prospects with restrictions on mail-in voting and mid-decade redistricting.

Longtime conservative political commentator Jon Fleischman of California scoffed at the news, dismissing it as unremarkable.

“Doesn’t this President make announcements like every 30 minutes?” Fleischman asked in a social media post on X.

S.V. Dáte, senior White House correspondent for HuffPost, issued a more humorous prediction for what Trump may announce later on Monday.

“Swedish is now the official language,” Dáte wrote in a social media post on X. “Every child younger than 16 years old is now 16 years old. Underwear must now be changed twice a day. And it must [be] worn on the outside. So we can check.”

The announcement comes as Trump faces mounting pressure to rein in record-high diesel prices ahead of November’s midterm elections. Trump told a Fox News reporter Sunday that his administration was looking “very seriously” at banning diesel exports as his deeply unpopular war against Iran stretches into its seventh month.
