President Donald Trump’s team went to extraordinary lengths recently to “calm him down” as a growing number of GOP lawmakers race to distance themselves from him amid his plummeting approval ratings, insiders told Zeteo for a report published Saturday.
A growing number of Republican lawmakers have publicly come out against Trump’s deeply unpopular war against Iran as the conflict continues to send oil prices skyrocketing. Others, like Ralph Alvarado, a GOP congressional candidate, or Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), have been accused of scrubbing their campaign websites of prominent references to Trump.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump has complained to those close to him about what he believed to be a lack of “political allies defending him on television.”
In an apparent bid to fill that void, a new taxpayer-funded ad praising Trump began airing this week, featuring the song “Love Me” by JMSN, who said it was used without permission, and insiders told Zeteo that where it aired was no accident.
“Two sources with knowledge of the situation say that Team Trump made sure to get the ‘Love Me’ ad on Fox and in the Washington, DC, media market, so that the president would see it on the TV in the White House, and therefore not ask why he wasn’t seeing it on TV,” Zeteo reported.
As noted by Zeteo, Trump’s team pulled a similar stunt in the 2020 election cycle, running ads in the Washington, D.C., area to “ease the boss’ anxieties,” as The Daily Beast described it.
“For starters, Trump has a tiny amount of political support among voters in the DC area,” Zeteo’s report reads. “This was yet another example of his advisers lighting many thousands of dollars on fire, just to calm him down.”
One source told Zeteo that Trump “wanted the ad to go everywhere.” As of Saturday, the ad appears to only be airing in select markets, according to The Guardian.
