President Donald Trump responded to reports that Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) removed him from his campaign for Florida governor with a long Truth Social post. In it, he called the coverage a “Fake Story” and said news outlets should be kept out of the White House.
“Another Fake Story is that a very close friend of mine, a man I endorsed very early, Byron Donalds, is taking me off his website and Campaign materials,” Trump wrote.
The reports said Donalds’ campaign website had dropped nearly every mention of Trump’s endorsement. His campaign said the change was meant to keep the focus on policy.
Trump blamed “the Woke and Dying USA Today” for the story. He said it then spread to CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times and other outlets. He also said Byron “immediately put” a picture out to deny the reports. Then he went after the press more broadly.
“The Fake News Media been doing this for years, I call them out, but they should really be called out by the Courts, and should not be allowed to enter the White House premises, or Press Room, because they are CORRUPT and DISHONEST!” Trump wrote.
The comment came days after a federal judge ordered his administration to restore the press credentials it had pulled from reporters at CNN, MS Now and Politico.
“The Courts must allow us to stop this totally dishonest form of Politics,” he added.
Trump also claimed his numbers “are better now than they were at the Election” and that he is “more popular in Florida today” than he was in 2024. He said two rallies for Donalds are already scheduled.
He called Donalds’ Democratic opponent, former Rep. David Jolly, “a known Lefty Loser.”
Trump also admitted that the reports could hurt his ally.
“If Florida thought the story that Byron ‘dropped’ me was true, he would lose the Election,” the president wrote.
