A woman was booted out of a county meeting in Central California after a fiery debate over data centers erupted into chaos.
During a Tulare County Board of Supervisors meeting in Visalia on Tuesday, the woman was escorted out by police after disrupting the meeting to protest AI data centers.
“Talk about the data center! This is a global problem, not a local problem!” she shouted in a video published by FOX 26.
The meeting took place after a data center was proposed for the Tulare County Fairgrounds back in July. Residents quickly pushed back against the plan, which led the County Board to enact a 45-day moratorium to stop all new data center projects in unincorporated areas.
During Tuesday’s meeting, supervisors voted 5-0 to extend the moratorium for another 10 months and 15 days. With the extension, it allows the county to mull future regulations on the facilities.
“Tulare County communities are living paycheck to paycheck, to survive a cost-of-living crisis that’s only getting worse,” said Joe Delgado, from the group Power California, told The Fresno Bee.“Residents here need economic relief. Instead, our representatives fast track profitable project, while failing to address critical and urgent solutions…”
Global Stack, the company behind the proposed project, was seeking to lease between two to five acres for 100 years, prompting a massive public backlash.

The company has also been pitching the idea of data centers to be built on other fairgrounds in counties across California. According to company materials, Global Stack sees fairgrounds as underused public land that has the potential to generate revenue.
All this comes as a poll released by The Economist and YouGovshows nearly two-thirds of Americans opposing new data center construction in their communities.
