Rep. Max Miller’s already ugly divorce has escalated into a legal showdown involving his own former father-in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno, according to newly filed court documents obtained by TMZ.
Miller reportedly issued subpoenas last week to Moreno and his wife, Bridget, Miller’s former mother-in-law, demanding they appear to answer questions about their daughter Emily and what they know regarding the ongoing divorce proceedings.
Moreno very nearly got pulled into the case once before. He was almost dragged into the divorce back in 2025, but Miller and Emily struck a settlement at the time, only to end up back in court months later once new disputes surfaced. Moreno has been vocal in the past about his strained relationship with his former son-in-law, publicly accusing Miller of tormenting the family for years.
Miller and Emily Moreno’s divorce, first filed in August 2024, has grown increasingly contentious as it drags on. The former couple shares a 3-year-old daughter, and both have accused the other of wrongdoing. Emily alleges extensive domestic abuse, including Miller throwing boiling water on her, holding a gun to her head, and breaking their daughter’s collarbone. Miller is requesting Emily undergo a psychological evaluation and alleging she made false abuse accusations against him, while she’s separately raised concerns about their daughter’s safety in his care.
Both have denied the other’s claims.
This isn’t the first flashpoint between the two families to become public. Miller has previously declined to answer questions about a campaign ad focused on his family situation, and has stayed silent when pressed on claims he’s made suggesting he has damaging information about Moreno himself.
Miller’s scandal has dogged him throughout the race, with the congressman fighting to take down a campaign ad highlighting the allegations against him.
