Attorney General Todd Blanche quietly turned over unredacted handwritten FBI notes involving a woman who accused President Donald Trump of sexual and physical abuse when she was a teenager — but apparently left no notice on the court docket, according to attorney and journalist Katie Phang.
Phang said Friday that her attorneys contacted the Justice Department after seeing no public filing confirming Blanche had met a Thursday deadline set by U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan.
“Nothing showed up on the docket yesterday,” Phang said. “We were all waiting to see if it did, and nothing showed up.”
Phang, in a Friday video, read from an email from DOJ attorney Andrew Block responding to her attorneys’ inquiry about whether the department had handed over both redacted and unredacted versions of the handwritten notes.
“Yes, we complied with the court’s order,” Block wrote, according to Phang.
Sullivan ordered Blanche to provide the documents to the court for private review by 11 a.m. Thursday. Phang said Friday the handwritten notes involve four FBI interviews with a woman who accused Trump of sexually and physically abusing her when she was between 13 and 15 years old.
While Phang noted that the Justice Department previously filed a formal “notice of compliance” when responding to another order in the case, “in this instance, nothing showed up on the docket.”
But Phang cautioned that Sullivan has not yet independently confirmed the contents of what DOJ provided.
“I do believe that Blanche did turn over the unredacted and redacted handwritten FBI notes,” she said. “We’ll find out from Judge Sullivan imminently.”
