If Republicans suffer massive losses in the midterms, which are just six weeks away, Donald Trump may find himself outside his party looking in.
According to former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), GOP lawmakers are getting tired of election lossesduring his second term and a midterm blow-out could be the last straw.
The former New Jersey governor told Politico Playbook that Trump-skeptical Republicans are already looking past Nov. 3. Calling in from New Hampshire, Christie warned that “for the first time in 15 years, we could be in a position to lose a majority of the governorships” — a stark reversal from when he chaired the Republican Governors Association and the party controlled 31 of 50 statehouses.
“I think there’s a scenario where Republicans wake up in the week or two after Election Day and say, ‘We’re just tired of losing,’” Christie told Playbook.
“Christie sees a potential post-November GOP rupture so big, it could open opportunities outside those vying to claim the MAGA mantle,” Politico Playbook reported, adding that the New Jersey Republican told them, “I think JD Vance has decided to make himself a disciple of Donald Trump, and I think that’s the image that he’s going to have to rise or fall with.”
As for his own political ambitions in 2028, he stated, “I really want to go out after the midterms are over, and depending upon what the results turn out to be, engage in a conversation with American voters about where we go from here. And for my own party: are we tired of losing yet?”
