A 6-year-old girl in China has set a women’s world record for Rubik’s Cube, solving a 3x3x3 cube in an average of 4.27 seconds.
Lian Yunzhi first posted an average of 4.52 seconds at a World Cube Association-certified competition in Wuhan on Sept. 13, then three days later, after five solves, posted an average of 4.27 seconds at a similar contest in Guangzhou, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Yunzhi, who is from Chengdu, learned how to solve Rubik’s Cubes at age 4, and spends two to three hours a day practicing to maintain her mastery of more than 1,300 cube-solving algorithms, her parents told CCTV.
According to the World Cube Association, the record for solving a single 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube is held by Teodor Zajder of Poland, who in February at age 9 solved in 2.76 seconds. American speed cuber Tommy Cherry holds the record for solving a single 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube while blindfolded, at 11.56 seconds.
