President Donald Trump’s polling problems somehow got even worse this week, with two surveys delivering devastating numbers as the midterm elections approach.
Journalist Tommy Christopher highlighted the collapse in a piece for former CNN anchor Jim Acosta’s Substack. He told readers Tuesday that while Trump’s second term has been “plagued with spectacularly bad poll numbers,” the president “has outdone even himself this week.”
“With Trump, things can always get worse,” Christopher wrote. “This week, they most definitely did.”
He pointed to an American Research Group poll that found Trump’s approval had fallen to 29%, his lowest result in the pollster’s tracking. The president’s approval on the economy stood at just 26%.
“Ouch!” Christopher wrote.
A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll put Trump at a record-low 32% in its tracking — and just 17% on his handling of the cost of living.
The ARG poll contained more bad news, according to Christopher.
“But perhaps nothing quite as disastrous as this: of the 29 percent of people who approve of Trump, 5% say they expect the financial situations in their households will be better a year from now.”
Reuters/Ipsos also found Trump’s Republican support dropping from 82% to 73% in one week.
“These polls are obviously at the low end of the galaxy of polls being put out, but the trends are deadly for Trump and the Republicans all over,” Christopher wrote, adding that state polls in states like Kansas and Nebraska “continue to show jaw-dropping gains by Democrats.”
“That could help explain why Trump is doing things like banning the free press and threatening to annihilate an entire country at the UN,” he concluded.
