Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has spent 23 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” to become the longest-running chart-topper of all time.
“I mean, we loved the song when we wrote it,” Langley, 27, said to reporters at a news conference in March, regarding its mainstream success. “But did we think it could do something like this? I don’t know how you could predict that.”
With a laid-back groove and a co-writing credit from Miranda Lambert, “Choosin’ Texas” has become the biggest crossover country hit of all time. (No thanks to Drake’s remix of the country smash, which premiered last week.)
It’s a crown jewel of the genre’s imperial era, during which Morgan Wallen’s 2023 single “Last Night” spent 16 weeks at the top of the chart, while artists including Luke Combs, Zach Bryan and Megan Moroney have notched major hits. But it’s not the last we’re likely to hear from Langley: Her latest single, the scenic “Loving Life Again,” has steadily climbed the charts.
“We’re just going in there and just having fun with the people we love making music with, and you don’t realize that could be a song that changes your life forever,” Langley said of “Choosin’ Texas.”
