CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale took a swipe at the Trump administration Monday after discovering that the official White House app was promoting months-old economic figures under its “accomplishments” section.
The administration advertised the app as a way to receive “real-time updates and live events streamed directly to your phone.”
”No noise. Just the news that matters most – straight from the Trump Administration (sic),” the White House wrote.
But Dale found that the app highlighted a $2.91 average gas price from February, a 2.4% inflation rate from the same month, and 4.4% economic growth from the third quarter of 2025.
Dale noted that the app lists gas prices “from seven months ago, before the Iran war,” even though they are now more than $1.50 per gallon higher. It also boasts an inflation rate “from seven months ago,” while the most recent figure is a full percentage point higher, and GDP growth “from three quarters ago,” while the latest available rate is nearly three percentage points lower.
“In summary, it may possibly be helpful to consume news from news outlets,” Dale wrote.
CNN’s Erin Burnett emphasized during her show’s opening monologue on Monday that the figures were not merely outdated but came from before the Iran war began.
“When I say seven months old on gas prices, seven months old on inflation, remember, Trump’s war is seven months old,” she said. “It’s pretty incredible.”
